No we have been using our system forever so it's hard to unlearn it and learn a new one
I agree with you because it would be so much money to change the signs and create something all new and it would take a long time. Also, some parts in the US are gonna be don't before others and it will make it very confusing.
I think the United States should switch to the metric system. Almost all of the world uses the metric system, besides a few countries. The metric system is a lot easier to use than the English system, the metric system has only one unit of measurement and is based on the number 10. The English system however is not based on anything. That is why the United States should switch to the metric system.
I agree that we should keep the metric sytem the same. This is because we have learned to use our system for years now and to change to a new one would take time to learn it and get used to using it. Another reason is the signs that use our system would have to be changed which would take a lot of time and add up to a large sum of money. Lastly others do not like change so if we did there would be a lot of conflict which could possibly create a lot of chaos. This is why we should keep our system and not switch to the metric system.
I think no because we have been using our system for our whole lives and it would be weird to switch over
Yes Nethan I agree with you because it would take a while for people to get used to and everyone would then get confused.
I think that we should change to the metric system because it only goes in 10's and has one basic unit of measurement
I think that the US should switch to the metric system because then we would be the same as the world and the metric system is a base 10 which is what our number system is so it would make things easier.
But we would have to convert and replace everything we already have into the metric system, and that would be a problem because there are thousands of signs, cars, and other stuff to convert
I disagree with cam. Although we should switch to make measurements universal we would have to spend so much money to switch everything. It could raise taxes and who likes that. Also how are you gonna get rid of everything that isn't metric. You can't just call back all rulers and speed sign and all of that.
I think we should change to the metric system becouse the rest of the world is using the metric system so it would make it easer to tell the rest of the world our findings.
While the metric system is easier to use, there are many reasons it wouldn't be reasonable to bring it to the United States. The average person doesn't understand how long a kilometer is, or how much a gram is. With the English system, Americans understand what they're measuring and how far they're going, so it wouldn't make sense to change. Also, every speed limit sign, gas station, and grocery store uses the English system. Imagine how expensive it would be to change this. Not only would it be uncomfortable to use the metric system, but it would also hurt the economy.
I don't think that we should change to the metric system because, we already know our system. It would be to hard for everyone to switch over especially the people who cannot pay to go back to school to learn. Parents who have kids aren't going to go back to school and
Dave there children to find out how to do the metric system. Also we already have all of these road signs and different things that you need to pay money to fix. So, we would be using millions of dollars to change many things we already have.
I agree with you that it would be hard to change back because we already know the system. I also agree with up you that it would be hard to fix and redo everything, but also I think that the metric system is easier and that it would be easy to learn.
No, they should not because I like to be different from the rest of the world and it makes us feel special.
I agree with you because if we changed we would have to pay money for all of the measurements to change and it would take time to get used to the change like shoe size and miles per hour
I like the way you say this but, I think we should change because it is easier to trade and communicate with other country's around the world.
I agree with you Reis. We are one of four countries in the world that don't use the metric system. They would also have to take down all the signs which would be a pain.
I believe that we should change to the Metric System because it makes it a lot simpler with conversions, and just memorizing everything in general. It is more organized, unlike the jumbled system we use now.
Yes. I believe that we should change to the metric system. The whole world (besides 2 other countries) use the metric system. The metric system is much simpler, and reliable. Because of the base 10 in the metric system, you can find another unit of measurement by simply moving a decimal. I think that units of length measurement such as a furlong or hogshead should not be used to communicate with other scientists for example. A more universal measurement system (metric) would be a smarter choice to use in the USA.
I agree with you Erin... Yet I think that we should change to the metric system when the United States is out of dept...think about how much money it would cost to change all the signs on the highways, gas stations, and in stores.
I think it is smart to switch to the metric system but it would take so much time and money and it would higher the governments debt by the time we have everything redone it would be hard to have everyone learn it after being used to our system for so long.
I agree with you David... But I think that it is worth the change so that we all have the same system and can do experiments without changing from the metric system to the English system
You do make a really good point it's hard to argue but we can't do it now. You have to factor in the expense of changing every road sign in the United States and speedometer in most cars also gas stations gallons. Also people would struggle to coop with the new system and it could increase car accidents in the USA. We just can't afford that option right now so I think we should not convert to the metric system.
I agree with Erin. The metric system is a much more universal system and it makes it easier to communicate with other countries. It makes conversions much easier because of base 10. Though it may not be practical because of all the things we would have to change and relearn, I think it would be a smart switch.
I think the US should change to the metric system because then all of the major countries in the world will use the same units of measurement that just happens to be much easier. Since it is easier kids could learn it at a younger age and then more people, kids and adults would understand how to measure things.
I agree with that Addie, and the fact that kids should learn it in preschool, the simple stuff, but just to stick it in their brains. There would definitely be a few years of confusion, but adults would eventually catch on, and the generations to come would use it.
No we should not convert to the metric system, although it might be helpful, is it worth switching to an entirely new system. If we were to switch it, we should switch it gradually, over a long period of time.
I totally agree with that!😀
I agree with that.
I agree with that
I think we should convert because it is a lot esaier to do business with someone from another country if we did. And it is a lot easier then the English system.
The US should change to the metric system because we don't want any other mistakes like the NASA one that costed the country millions of dollars. Also the rest of the world is using it and I think we should join them.
Yes, I believe that we should change to the Metric System because it is simpler and easier for us to share with other countries. It is simpler because it is a base of ten so to convert, you only have to move the decimal point. This will make it easier for children to learn the Metric System instead of having them learn the English System in which there is no base. Also, it would be easier for scientists to share results from different countries if they all use the Metric System because they will be able to compare results with ease. To conclude, I believe that we should switch to the Metric System because it is a lot easier and simpler than the English System.
I totally agree with Gabby, and her answer. It is a lot easier to convert to the metric system because it's easier to use and compare data. The metric system goes by 10s which makes it easier to learn, and Gabby brought up some points that I had never even thought of. I agree with her 100%
I think that the U.S. should change to the metric system because that is what almost the whole rest of the world is using. It would be much easier to communicate measurements if we all used the same system.
I think the U.S should convert to the metric system. First off most of the world uses the metric system except the U.S which can cause problems such as the one in NASA when two groups were using two different systems which wasted a lot of money for a small mistake. Secondly, if we used the metric system it would be easier to use for business instead of trying to convert English to metric. This is why I think the U.S should use the metric system instead of the English system.
Yes we should convert to the metric system. Since the US is only one of 3 Countrys that don't use the metric system it would be a lot easier for foreign measurements since stuff like science already use the metric system. It would be a lot easier to measure since it is all base 10 so after the conversion metric would be better.
We would have to convert everything we have, and the US shouldn't change because everyone else uses it, the English system has worked for us so far and it will continue to work well for us.
Yes,I believe that we should use metric system.Because most of the countries used metric system. And it is convenient and easy to use.And a meter is more precise than a feet。
I do believe that the USA should convert to the metric system because of the fact that the rest of the world uses the metric system and when we use it as well whenever we travel it will be a lot easier to convert since you won't need to also the metric system is easier than our English system in the fact that it's based on powers of tens.
I believe that even though changing to the metric system would be better for the US, it would cost far too much money to make the conversion. Everything we have is measured in the customary system, gasoline, speed limits, and serving sizes. It would cost billions and billions of dollars to switch. As much sense as it makes, and as much as it would improve communications between the US and other countries, it is just too costly and unrealistic.
I think we shouldn't switch to the metric system because it will cost a lot of money and will have to learn the new system.
I think we should convert to the metric system because I think it would be a lot easier then the English system. Also only 2 other countries haven't fully developed. If we converted it would be a lot easier if you went to a different country that used the metric system. And it is based on 10 witch is a lot easier to convert then the English system.
No, we should not have the metric system in the USA because we have done the English system our whole life it would be really confusing to change.
I think that we should stay with our English System. This is because on all of our highways we have the speed limit signs and more, since the US is already in debt, this would not be a good deal for us. Also since most of the measurements we make in our everyday lives this would be a bery hard step to learn.
Yes, I believe we should switch to the metric system because all other counties (other then two) use it, therefore it would be easier to do projects/buisness because you would be using the same system, and you wouldn't need to convert and it would be a less chance of an error. Also the metric system is very simple, because it is a base of ten so it is simplified and more reliable. I believe we should convert to the metric system.
I think we should switch to the metric system. I know you would have to change many things. In the end it would pay off for future generations. It would be helpful for communicating with other countries which also use the metric system. Also it would be easy to learn because it is based on 10's.
If we switch what about the ev's in the hospitals and the shots they have to change them and operations are constantly going on so that may mess them up and be fatal to the patient
We have been using the English system for so long. Our parents, our grandparents, our great grandparents... And basically going back like forever, have used the English system. Now we're growing up learning the English system. If we were going to switch to the metric system we should have done it a long time ago. It's to late to change everything.
If we were to change to the metric system many people would be confused as they have learned how to use the English system and this new system will be hard to change to.In my opinion the metric system should still be used in science for measurments and quantity. The whole US cant quickly change and there will be some people who disegree to changing to.
I think we should stay with the English system, even though it would be a improvement in our country. It would be a big change, that could could confuse kids, adults, and the majority of the country as well. We already have our own system, we should stay with what we have instead of trying to change.
I believe that the new generation of students in USA should be taught the metric system so when they become elders they can switch it to the metric system, so they and everyone else will know it now too.
Yes, I think that we should change to the metric system, because almost the entire world uses it, and if we used the same system, it would be a lot less complicated. It is also a lot easier because all you do to convert a measurement in move over the decimal point. It's based off of ten, so it isn't confusing.
I don't really care what happens because I can see from both sides so I'm fine with either. But if we change we will have to take time to learn and adjust.
No, America Should not switch because we are different. We stray from the group that's why we have become the greatest place to live in the world. If we switch to the metric system we lose apart of are past. we didn't switch then and we should not switch now.
I think that we should not have the metric system because it would cost a lot of money for paying for the new school supply's and street signs. Also it would be a really hard change for everyone and learning all of the units.
I don't thing we should use the metric system because if we have to change street signs and all of the other signs I think it might be hard for elderly people to understand if mabye they thought it was confusing. So cars might use the system we have now to the metric system and cars might have accidents and it would be craziness on the rode.
I think that the US should change to the metric system because it's a lot more convenient for everyone and every other country uses the metric system except two other countries so it would be easier to share data between countries.
